Roll vs Sheet Supplement Labels: A Buyer’s Checklist

Choose the format around your application

Roll and sheet labels can use similar artwork, but their handling requirements differ. Choose the format after deciding who will apply the labels and what equipment will be used.

When sheets are useful

Sheets are convenient for hand application, small batches and checking several artwork versions together. Discuss the sheet layout and how labels will be removed from the backing. Confirm storage and handling arrangements so the labels remain clean before application.

When rolls are useful

Rolls support repeated hand application and compatible automatic applicators. Before ordering for a machine, get its specification from the equipment operator. Required details may include core diameter, maximum roll diameter, label gap, unwind direction and the orientation of the printed artwork.

Specify each SKU clearly

Create a list containing the SKU name, artwork filename and revision, dimensions and quantity. Identify whether each SKU requires its own roll or sheet batch. Review the proof for every version; a shared brand layout does not mean the variable wording is identical.

Review material and scanner performance

Share the bottle surface and intended exposure conditions. Check an actual sample for fit and adhesion. For barcodes and QR codes, provide the final data and test the printed sample with the intended scanner. Reserve readable space for customer-approved product information.

Send a complete request

Tell RP Labels the format, application method, dimensions, quantity per SKU, finish, equipment requirements and delivery country. The quote should confirm production timing and shipping separately.

Machine-applied roll checklist

Ask your equipment operator for the unwind direction, core diameter, maximum roll diameter, label gap and liner requirements. Confirm whether the artwork orientation is viewed from the outside or inside of the roll. Send an equipment specification or drawing when available; do not select roll dimensions from the bottle size alone.

Apply this checklist to custom supplement bottle and jar labels. Review material and finish choices and the approval process for multiple SKUs.
